JIM THORPE, Pa. — This Labor Day, people of all ages strapped on their life jackets and grabbed paddles to take a trip down the Lehigh River in Jim Thorpe.
Will Schuster is a trip leader with Jim Thorpe River Adventures. He says trips like these are growing in popularity.
"It's My favorite way to see nature, so I love the challenge of the sport. I love being outdoors, and I like to share that with the people, and I think people who come on our trips really get that," said Will Schuster, a trip leader with Jim Thorpe River Adventure.
Many families on this rafting trip came to the area for a long Labor Day weekend getaway.
"We went camping for three days this Labor Day weekend, now we are here," said Randy Huang from New York.
Randy Huang from New York says an afternoon on the river is a bucket list experience the whole group has been looking forward to.
"We are all first timers in the entire boat so we just try to experience whatever we always wanted to try," said Huang.
"I think The first 10 minutes are going to be quite nervous then hopefully it should be fine, then we'll float down have lunch go some more will be nice," said Stephen Parker of New York.
Jim Thorpe River Adventures is just one of several groups that offer tours in the area. Guides say the river levels are at peak conditions after a dry stretch back in July.
"Then through August, we've gotten a little more rain, so we are going into September with good water levels. It's been a great season," said Schuster.
As long as the weather doesn't get too cold, rafting guides say they hope to continue tours until at least October in Jim Thorpe.
