KIDDER TOWNSHIP -- The colder weather earlier this week gave one ski resort in Carbon County a jump start on the season.
Jack Frost Big Boulder opened up Thursday afternoon and people came out in droves.
It's that time of the year again, it's just here earlier than usual.
The folks at Jack Frost Big Boulder opened one slope at the Big Boulder ski site and before long it was packed.
“The season started already which is fantastic,” said one snowboarder.
“It's great, it's fantastic, it's good that they're finally open. They got a good park out here, so Boulder does it good.”
Workers there said the freezing temperatures allowed them to get a jump start on the season.
Once word spread, the slope was jumping with skiers and snowboarders who came in from all over.
Alex McLaughlin and his friend Vince Moron drove up from Philadelphia.
“It's pretty great, kind of skipped out of school, came up here, I just got an email, and we're like, 'we're heading up,' kind of an impulse decision,” said Mclaughlin.
Judging by the cool tricks these snow bunnies were pulling, it was obvious they`ve been itching to show off their moves.
“Last year we just came out on a slushy day and built a jump and started trying it and it worked out,” said Moron.
Once again, folks can ski for free through the “Boulder Gives Back” donation drive.
Every year on opening night, Jack Frost Big Boulder collects food for a food pantry at a local church and collects toys for Toys for Tots with those toys going to the local community.
“So if they come, they bring 10 canned goods or non-perishable food items they get a free tickets or they bring a toy for Toys for Tots they can get a free lift ticket,” said Heather Schiffbauer with JFBB.
“I heard about it from some friends on Facebook and then we decided to do the 10 can thing, and we're riding today, and it's real nice,” said TJ Lippicott of Nazareth.
