CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — State police are investigating the death of an infant in Carbon County.
The Pennsylvania State Police's Criminal Investigation Unit responded to a home in Nesquehoning just after noon. State troopers and Nesquehoning police spent more than 8 hours searching the home on Rhume Street.
The Schuylkill County coroner says the baby was brought to St. Luke's Hospital in Coaldale, where the infant died.
They were later joined by the forensic services unit. Investigators spent hours combing through the property.
As night fell, officers could be seen taking photographs and moving through each floor of the building. Multiple evidence bags were also carried out of the home.
State Police have not said what led to the infant's death or if anyone is in custody.
The coroner expects to release more information following additional testing planned for Friday.
Troopers tell us at this time, there is no danger to the community, and the investigation is ongoing.
