LEHIGHTON, Pa. — State police are investigating a homicide in Carbon County.
Officers responded to Carbon Street in Lehighton for a report of an assault around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
When they arrived, they found a 59-year-old man, identified as Edward Whitehead Jr., with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers said Whitehead Jr. was struck by a "piercing object."
Police arrested Zak Moyer, 30, of Lehighton, and charged him with one count of criminal homicide.
Moyer is locked up at the Carbon County Correctional Facility.
Devon Greenwalt lives in the neighborhood. He says he watched from his front porch as police combed through the scene.
"I was just relaxing upstairs watching TV, and then I heard sirens. So then I came outside, so I cops all the way up there, and then, like, on the road, there was a K-9 there. It was crazy. I think the street is basically cursed. This is not the first time there's been a lot of cops here."
The homicide remains under investigation in Carbon County.
