Firemen honored for 50 years of service

People in Carbon County came together Monday night to honor two firemen who have served their community for half a century.

LEHIGHTON, Pa. — "I mean we were on the first fire together weren't we butch," said Bruce Wolfe.

"Yes, we were driving down the road. Bruce says stop so I stop the truck Bruce wanna come with us on a brushfire he says yup. He jumped on the truck and he's been running with us ever since," said Francis 'Butch' Kresge.

It's memories that stretch back decades for Bruce Wolfe and Francis 'Butch' Kresge.

The two men were honored for 50 years of service at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company in Carbon County.

Wolfe and Kresge say time went by too fast, "like a blink of the eye I never would've expected that I'd be here that long. I think they're trying to tell me it's time for pension."

A procession of fire trucks from all over Carbon County came through to honor the two men's legacy of service.

"I was telling Bruce I think they're going up the back, coming back down, and going around again, I've never seen so many," said Kresge.

It was then followed by an award ceremony where leaders from the fire department, township, and county were able to say thank you.

"It's been a hell of a ride. I'll tell you. I love them all I mean, great group of guys, not just this department, but all of them," said Wolfe and Kresge.
