CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — The sun is glistening off the water at Mauch Chunk Lake Park near Jim Thorpe as beachgoers take in the last bit of summer even if the weather doesn't feel like summer.
"I have my college hoodie on I have my bathing suit underneath. I thought I was going to get in the water, but it's a little too windy, so I'm using my towel as a blanket," said Julissa Garcia, Stroudsburg.
"As long as the wind doesn't hit, it's nice and warm, but it's so cold when the wind comes," said Tulia Garcia, Stroudsburg.
Tulia Garcia and her daughter say they got to the lake early for a hike and set up their chairs on the beach before it filled up.
"I thought we would have one last hoorah before the summer break ends, but we are just glad to be out here," said Julissa.
The Spaits family traveled from the Lehigh Valley for the day.
"We've been coming here for a few years; it's nice and quiet, clean. My kids have a lot of fun here," said Bethanie Spaits, Whitehall.
Beachgoers say they'll take full advantage of the day off relaxing on the beach, but many tell Newswatch 16 they're not ready to see summer go.
"We are summer people, we are water people, we are outdoor people, so we are definitely sad to see summer go, but it'll be back next year, and we will be here," said Bethanie.
"It's fantastic to leave all of the problems behind and just enjoy Mother Nature," said Tulia.
Swimming at Mauch Chunk Lake Park is now closed for the season.
