JIM THORPE, Pa. — In their best country outfits, some students from L.B. Morris School in Jim Thorpe brought their dance moves to the football field. It's all for the annual country dance.
Health and physical education teacher Claire Burns has spent years teaching line and square dances to her students. This year, nearly 400 kids put on their boots that were made for dancing.
"We've been practicing since after Christmas, the students in kindergarten, first, second, and third grade," explained Burns.
Each class learned a different type of dance. The second graders had a special one.
"Marching in Jim Thorpe; it's a square dance. We had to swing our partner," said second grade student Kaylin Goff.
"It makes me happy because everyone got to watch the classes, so all of the parents came," said second grade student Dakota Hummel.
"It's awesome. They love being here with their parents and showing their parents what they learned. They love dressing up in their cowboy and cowgirl outfits. It's just a good time," said Burns.
The seventh and eighth grade students step in to help show the younger dancers the moves.
Miya Stewart says she remembers learning the dances when she was a student at L.B. Morris.
"It's very fun to see the little kids when we were that age move on to see how it grows over time, and it's fun to see your brothers and sisters do it, and it's a great tradition that should keep on going," said Stewart.
