Driver identified in deadly crash near Jim Thorpe

The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday along I-476 North in Penn Forest Township near Jim Thorpe.

CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — One person is dead after a crash in Carbon County.

The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday along I-476 North in Penn Forest Township near Jim Thorpe.

The Carbon County Coroner's Office was called to the scene.

Paul E. Schweizer, a 68-year-old man from Harveys Lake in Luzerne County was pronounced dead at the scene after his car collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer and caught fire.

The Carbon County coroner listed his cause of death as thermal burns and smoke inhalation. His death was ruled an accident.

Due to the crash, a closure from the Mahoning Valley Interchange (Exit 74) and the Pocono Interchange (Exit 95) has now ended.
