Coroner responds to crash near Jim Thorpe

The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. along I-476 North in Penn Forest Township near Jim Thorpe.

CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — At least one person is dead after a crash in Carbon County.

The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. along I-476 North in Penn Forest Township near Jim Thorpe.

The Carbon County Coroner's Office was called to the scene.

There is no word yet on what led to the deadly wreck.

According to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, there is a closure between the Mahoning Valley Interchange (Exit 74) and the Pocono Interchange (Exit 95) as a result of the crash. 

The closure will remain in place until Pennsylvania State Police complete their investigation.

During the closure, the following detour is in place: 

  • US Route 209 North 
  • PA Route 115 North 
  • I-80 West, 7.0 miles (Exit 277) 
  • Re-enter at the Pocono Interchange #A95
