A Hollywood actor who was born in Luzerne County and played “the professor” on Gilligan’s Island has died.
ABC News is reporting that Russell Johnson passed away today of kidney failure at his home in Washington State.
Johnson was born in Ashley, PA.
He is probably best known for his role as Professor Roy Hinkley on Gilligan’s Island in the 1960’s.
Johnson also appeared in several movies and television shows including Lassie and Gunsmoke.
Russell Johnson was 89 years old.
