Rig wreck on bridge closes road in Bradford County

A truck crash caused significant damage and closure Wednesday morning on Route 6 near Troy.

TROY, Pa. — A truck crash closed a road in Bradford County Wednesday morning.

Route 6 is closed in both directions between Leona Road and Mud Creek Road in Troy Township after an oversized load hit the bridge over Sugar Creek, according to PennDOT.

According to emergency officials, the rig was traveling along Route 6 when it hit the top part of the bridge that crosses Sugar Creek.

According to state police, there were no injuries. A detour has been set up. It takes drivers on Route 6 to Leona Road, up to Spring Field Road, out to Route 14, and then back to Route 6.

There are now concerns about the strength and integrity of the bridge.

A resident who lives near the bridge says something like this happening was a big surprise to them.

"It might be a while before it gets fixed," Cassandra Hamburger said. "We're not really sure how long it's going to take, so you know, just taking the detour will add some extra time to get to Troy. And I'm sure it'll be an inconvenience to a lot of people, but you know, we'll get through it."

Emergency officials tell us the truck was heading from a site in eastern Bradford County to a site in Mansfield, Tioga County.

"It’s not the first time it happened. The sad part is every time it happens, it’s months of reconstruction. I don’t know if there’s been damage this bad before," Wyatt Hulslander said.

Huslander knows the owner of the truck company.

"Him and his insurance company are going to pay for it, and today, things are very expensive to repair."

Crews are still working to get the truck off the bridge.

PennDOT expects the bridge in Troy Township to be closed for a few weeks while repairs to the bridge are made.
