WILKES-BARRE -- Wilkes-Barre police said a woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after a domestic dispute that ended in gunfire in front of the couple’s child.
According to Wilkes-Barre police, officers arrived to the home on Andover Street after getting a call about a couple fighting and reports of gunshots Thursday night around 11 p.m.
Investigators confirm they found a 47-year-old woman dead and a 48-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital.
Neighbors tell us the victims involved in the shooting are Vito and Jane Aiello who were going through a divorce. Newswatch 16 followed up with Geisinger Wyoming Valley after learning of the shooting. The hospital confirmed Vito Aiello is in critical condition which re-enforced what neighbors told us. Because Jane Aiello did not survive, officials said the coroner was called into the investigation.
People who know the couple said the Aiello’s have two children, one teenager who was home at the time and another child who was away at college. The teen was seen running out of the house screaming for help.
It appears this is an isolated incident and that the gunfire was just between the couple. It’s unclear who pulled the trigger but it does not seem Wilkes-Barre Police are looking for a shooter.
