SCRANTON -- A group of Keystone College students have started a book club, but the other members aren't students. They're those in our area who are homeless.
"They all volunteered to do this because they wanted to help," said Associate Professor Stacey Wyland.
This book club doesn't meet on campus. It's at the Community Intervention Center in Scranton, where students are interacting with the homeless by sharing some of the classics.
"It's invigorating," said Gail Ranson of Scranton. "It's enjoyable. We're learning things. We're interacting. We're showing up to just chit chat about a story that was read."
Right now, the book club is focusing mostly on poems and short stories because they don't have the money for entire books for the whole group.
Wyland started a GoFundMe to help raise money so that the center can get a bookshelf filled with multiple copies of books for the members to read. You can donate money for new books by clicking here.
"It would be wonderful to not have to go through the dusty bookshelf and have to find a relatively good book," added Julia Foglio, a junior at Keystone College.
The club meets every Wednesday at the Community Intervention Center.
