Attorney General Kathleen Kane is fighting to keep her law license and perhaps, her job,

Newswatch 16 investigative reporter obtained a copy of the Scranton native's filing as the tries to stop the state from taking away her license to practice law.

The filing which we obtained, for the first time publicly, confirms that the arm of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court is trying to revoke the attorney general's license to practice law.

The petition to take away the attorney general's law license was filed sometime after her arrest on charges of leaking confidential information to a newspaper, and lying about it.

If the Pennsylvania Supreme Court revokes Kathleen Kane's law license, her very status of attorney general is in question, because the state constitution requires the A.G. to be a licensed lawyer.

Paperwork we've obtained shows Kane bases her fight on her innocence, and her own constitutional rights.

Kane's lawyers write none of the allegations against her are true and correct, despite her arrest.

Her lawyers write there is no basis to revoke her law license on the grounds of 'egregious conduct.'

Kane's lawyers also claim that despite her legal problems, the office of disciplinary council did not establish that 'immediate and substantial harm' would result from her continuing to practice law.

Her petition claims taking away her license would violate her constitutional rights, that she'd lose the right to practice in a lawfully acquired profession without due process.

No date has been set for the office of disciplinary council or the state supreme court to rule whether Kathleen Kane can continue to practice law.
