BRADFORD COUNTY, Pa. — One person has died after a fire in Bradford County Wednesday night.
A state police fire marshall and other investigators ruled the fire arson on Thursday.
The fire started in a home on Tyler Street in Athens around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The police chief said Donald Chandler, 62, was inside the house at the time of the fire and did not make it out.
Investigators said Chandler's wife was also home at the time but wasn't hurt.
First responders also say two firefighters suffered minor injuries and are expected to be OK.
"This is the worst thing that has ever happened on this street, I can honestly say," neighbor Melinda Chamberlain said.
Chamberlain lives six houses down the street and tells Newswatch 16 her family was home watching TV when they heard the call come over the scanner, so they went outside to see what was going on.
"It just got crazy after that, firefighters, police, we had the scanner turned up. My girls walked down the street to see," she recalled. "I stood on the other side of the street and looked down, and there was smoke."
