EAST STROUDSBURG — Police said three family members ran a housing scam in Monroe County that defrauded the government out of almost $80,000.
Investigators said Yolanda McPherson, 52, of East Stroudsburg; her daughter Nakiya Washington, 33, and Nakia’s husband Jesse Heck, 35, were involved in scheme in which Heck owned a low income housing unit in East Stroudsburg.
Authorities said Jesee lived in it and collected Section 8 vouchers he was not entitled to to pay their mortgage. They said Heck posed as McPherson’s landlord and was able to collect almost $38,0000 in rent while McPherson was also able to collect almost $40,0000 in Section 8 payments that she was not entitled to.
All three will be back in court in Monroe County to face charges.
