WILKES-BARRE -- A former high school football coach in Luzerne County faces 25 years in federal prison for making child pornography and cyber stalking.
Joseph Ostrowski pleaded guilty this morning to the charges in Federal Court.
It was a normal day here at Holy Redeemer High School in Wilkes-Barre.
But it wasn't so calm last May, when football Coach Joseph Ostrowski was arrested on charges of making child pornography, extortion, and cyber stalking.
"Kind of made us all a little nervous that we could be this close to something like that and not even know anything about it or be aware of it," said parent Karen Worlinsky.
Now Ostrowski faces a possible 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to all charges in Federal Dourt.
According to court papers, Joseph Ostrowski was involved in child pornography, cyber stalking and extortion from 2006 to 2012. Not only did it include victims here in Pennsylvania, but also in states as far as Indiana, Michigan, and Alabama.
According to court papers, Ostrowski admitted to using Facebook, text messages, email and Skype to commit the crimes with minors, adults, and students involved in athletic programs.
Thomas Lynn has a son on the Holy Redeemer baseball team.
"It's really unbelieveable because being a Catholic institution, I thought they would do a better background check, find out about people," said Lynn.
Parents we spoke with say they're relieved to hear that Ostrowski pleaded guilty, but they hope for a harsher punishment than 25 years in prison.
"I'd like to see him there for good, keep him in there so he doesn't do it again," said Worlinksy.
Ostrowski remains locked up. a date for his sentencing in Federal Court has not yet been set.
