SCRANTON -- Moosic Attorney Matt Cartwright had an easy time winning the 17th Congressional District that includes much of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, and Schuylkill Counties.
Cartwright, a Democrat, defeated Republican Laureen Cummings of Old Forge in a race that was never really see as close, because of the district has a strong Democratic majority.
Cartwright was declared the winner not long after polls closed at the Hilton in Downtown Scranton.
Cartwright is new to politics, and his path to Congress was cleared when he soundly defeated incumbent Tim Holden in the Democratic primary in April.
Two key promises is to save jobs at Tobyhanna Army Depot and bring Amtrak passenger rail service to the region.
