BLOOMSBURG -- Concussions or head related injuries have impacted contact sports in a major way. Athletes have had to retire early, while others have had their lives changed forever.
Bloomsburg University is stepping up efforts for better concussion research.
Bloomsburg University is one of a hundred schools across the country to do a study on how to treat and prevent sports related concussions.
Student athletes of various fall sports like football, men's and women's soccer, and field hockey took written tests to identify reaction times.
NFL wide receiver and Philadelphia Soul co-owner Marques Colston was also on hand.
Colston has been working with Bloomsburg sports technology and sports medicine program and wanted to see how this type of testing could help athletes suffering from concussions.
Colston says he is happy to see more people take an active approach to treating athletes with concussions.
"One of the things they are doing here is trying to objectify that information and try to drive awareness and decisions through data. Doing that people can make more informed decisions," Colston told Newswatch 16.
Officials say no two concussions are alike but if they have the ability to treat one concussion it can only help them treat others.
