Remembrance walk in Avoca honors those lost in 9/11

Dozens walked from Main Street to Hawthorne Street in Avoca to remember the victims of 9/11.

AVOCA, Pa. — People took to the streets in Luzerne County to remember the victims of 9/11.

The sounds of bagpipes led scouts and firemen on an annual remembrance walk from Main Street to Queen of Apostles Parish along Hawthorne Street in Avoca.

Organizers say it's important to continue to memorialize this day and what it means to first responders.

"It shows that we're, we're a brotherhood. And we know, with the fire, police, the ambulance we all work together. So any first responder should realize that it is a family atmosphere that we have in this group," said Chris Van Luvender, retired Avoca Fire Chief, organizer.

A mass followed the walk at Queen of Apostles Parish in Avoca.
