Happy hour fundraiser held to honor 9/11 first responders in Lackawanna County

Radio stations held a live broadcast fundraiser on Wednesday in honor of the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks.

MOSCOW, Pa. — Radio stations in Lackawanna County held a live broadcast fundraiser on Wednesday night to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Crockett from Froggy 101 and Rob O'Donnell from Wilk News Radio hosted a happy hour at the High Bridge House in Spring Brook Township, near Moscow.

O'Donnell was a 9/11 first responder with the NYPD. He tells Newswatch 16 he took a photo during a bucket brigade on September 13th, 2001. He called the flag a beacon of light amid the devastation. O'Donnell said he wanted to provide a space for local first responders on a day when we remember and celebrate heroes.

"Bring everybody together under the same roof, share some drinks, share some laughs, cry a little bit. Hug each other, and remember that feeling of unity," said O'Donnell.

O'Donnell's message is not to let the memory of 9/11 be erased and live like tomorrow is never guaranteed.

Some of the money raised at the event will help a Scranton firefighter battling health problems.
