Park officials announce program schedule for 161st anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg

All programs are free and open to the public.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Gettysburg National Military Park has announced its program schedule for the 161st anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. 

The park will commemorate the anniversary with a variety of free guided walks and talks that discuss, explore and reflect on the important chapter in the nation's history. 

Visitors are invited to join National Park Rangers as they follow in the footsteps of the soldiers who fought at Gettysburg. Special hikes, lectures, living historians and encampments, and special family programs will be available for guests to enjoy and follow the battle action on the fields where history was made. 

These battlefield experiences will reflect on the significance, meaning and legacy of the battle fought over a century and a half ago.

Family activities will also be available at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center at select times throughout the anniversary of the battle. Guests can discover reproduction items and artifacts from the battle and participate in special "Hands on History" stations to learn more about the people involved in, and affected by, the Battle of Gettysburg. 

The Sacred Trust Lecture Series, co-sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation and Gettysburg National Military Park, will be held July 1 to 3 and July 6 to 7 at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. The event features renowned authors, historians, and National Park Service Rangers examining various aspects of the American Civil War experience, the Battle of Gettysburg, and much more. All programs are free and open to the public. 

Visitors are encouraged to wear proper foot and headgear, bring plenty of water, and wear sunscreen and insect repellent.
