Neighbors react to woman having partial amputation after dog attack

State police say this was not the first time they were called to the private community near Gouldsboro to deal with this specific group of dogs.

WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — "The morning that it happened, the dogs were on my property, and they must've went that way," said Denise Cassano of Lehigh Township.

Her small community near Gouldsboro is shaken after two women were attacked by a pack of dogs just a few feet from her home early Monday morning.

"I got a fear for my life in here. It's not right," said Cassano.

She caught the dogs eating deer corn in her front yard on her security camera just minutes before the attack in Lehigh Township.

When troopers responded to the property along Iroquois Path, they found two injured victims; both were taken to Geisinger CMC.

State Police says one victim was treated for minor injuries while the other was forced to have a partial arm amputation.

"I feel so terrible, and I don't even know the woman personally," said Cassano.

State police say seven dogs were left alone for two days after their owner, Lori Mulvey, was evicted.

Mulvey admitted that she owned the dogs and last visited the property on February 10th to feed them.

"First off, I was mad. I mean, I was just furious. This all could've been avoided. All of it," said Loretta Foster, another woman in the neighborhood who says she's had run-ins with the dogs before.

"The police department has been notified of this. The dog warden's been notified of it," said Foster. "It was only a matter of time. I even stood right here and told one of the police officers what is it going to take? somebody's going to get killed or get hurt before these dogs are gone."

Both women hope for a speedy recovery for the victims and that another tragedy like this never happens again.

"Don't go out there with nothing to protect yourself," said Cassano.

"I mean, if there's anything, anything I can do to help that woman, I'm on it. I'll be right there to help her," said Foster.

Newswatch 16 reached out to the Wayne County dog warden but have not heard back.

State police say all of the dogs involved have been euthanized, and their owner, Lori Mulvey, now faces charges.
