Check It Out with Chelsea | French Fries for Team Allied Services

Newswatch 16's Chelsea Strub learns what it takes to work the drive-thru and make french fries at McDonald's, all for Team Allied Services.

SCRANTON, Pa. — The next time you pull up to a McDonald's drive-thru, you might hear someone say, "Would you like to make that a large fry for Team Allied?" Or ask, "Would you like to purchase a bracelet for Team Allied? They're $2."

It's part of the Mueller Family McDonald's and Stella-Corbin Family McDonald's locations fundraiser for Team Allied Services and You, where a portion of every large French fry sold in the month of September goes to this year's campaign for pediatric care at Allied Services.

This is happening at 30 McDonald's locations across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. At the restaurant on North Keyser Avenue in Scranton, you'll likely hear those requests from Chrissy Papi.

"Knowing that I'm doing all the donations, I know all this money is going to benefit them. Parents that are struggling, they are there for them. It's a very good organization," adds Chrissy.

She says asking people for donations is the easiest part of her day at the drive-thru window.

"Because it's a local organization. Yeah, I have no problem," explained Chrissy.

After spending 20 minutes working in the drive-thru window, I found out why.

Then, it was time to wash up and see how the French fries are made.

First, we fill a basket with fries from the cooler, place the basket in the fryer, and set a time for three minutes.

While they cook, we check on outstanding orders and fill them as needed.

Then we go back to the fryer, lift the basket, do some shaking to get rid of the excess oil, place them in the warmer, salt them, and continue filling orders as they come through.
