Broad Street Run | Check It Out with Chelsea

Newswatch 16's Chelsea Strub finds out if any runners travel as far as the City of Brotherly Love to hit the pavement.

PHILADELPHIA — Runners from northeastern Pennsylvania made their way to the start of the Independence Broad Street Run to race 10 miles through the city of Philadelphia.

"I just love that energy, and I love the people. I love everything about this city, so I'm really excited to be back," Mary Vanesko said.

"It's really cool that people are willing to travel around two hours for the race," Linnae Homza said.

Some we found from our area were prepared with ponchos and love running this race.

"Look at this energy. It's more than physical fitness," laughed Jody Price.

Others were there for a personal goal.

"I'm going to do one every single month, so I'm kind of organized and push myself further every time," Joe Homza said.

Some were there for the first time to cheer on family members.

"I have never done this, so it was exciting. I'm excited. It's the great crowd, minus the weather a little bit," Mary Jo Raniero said.

By the second half of the race, the runners had spread out while the sidelines became packed with supporters, and confetti filled the streets.

Then came the final mile where some needed encouragement from other runners.
