SCRANTON, Pa. — Topsy Turvy will accept being petted by anyone. In fact, he demands it. He has quickly become a shelter favorite at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo in Scranton, and rescue workers want to make sure this special guy finds the perfect home.
"He's been with us just since the beginning of November. He, unfortunately, was dumped outside when his family moved, and then someone called us because he was being beaten up by outside cats. He does have mild CH, so cerebellar hypoplasia that makes him a little bit wobbly," explained Katrina Organ, a worker at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo.
That is how Topsy got his name, but rescue workers say it is a pretty mild case. We could hardly even tell when we met him. It is not a progressive disease, either. How he is now is how he will stay, and Topsy does not require any extra care because of it.
"He might not be able to do stairs, so you would just have to be able to have his food, water, and litter all on the same floor. And just regular vet care is important. Every once in a while, they can have a chipped tooth or something like that," Organ said.
It also might take him a little longer to do something, but he will always figure it out. Topsy is afraid of other cats, most likely because of the time when he was abandoned on the street, so he would be happiest being the only pet in the home. An older cat who would give him space might be OK.
Rescue workers say probably no small children, either, because he can get a bit nippy. He likes to use his teeth but is never mean when doing it.
"Your classic spicy ginger cat; he is very playful. Really is pretty much open to playing with a being petted by anyone," Organ said.
