Pippy at True Friends Animal Welfare Center | 16 To The Rescue:

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 1-year-old cat rescued from a hoarding situation last month in Scranton.

MONTROSE, Pa. — Pippy can be shy at first, but she had no problem giving kisses and head bumps to the camera. Really, the only requirement for Pippy's new home is a loving one and a family willing to give her a chance.

"She's very sweet. She's shy. Unfortunately, she doesn't know how to play with toys yet; we're working with her. But she loves attention," said Linda Lee, cat coordinator at True Friends Animal Welfare Center near Montrose.

Rescue workers at True Friends think she loves attention because there was a time when she never got any. Pippy was rescued from a hoarding situation in Scranton last month. They think that is also why she does not know how to play with toys, because there weren't any in her old home.

"Lucky if there was food. We took four or five in, and they all competed almost for food. You can't even get the food in the dish, and they're bumping your hand and everything," said Lee.

That's why rescue workers want to see Pippy get adopted very soon. She can go to a home with other cats and kids. She's never really been around dogs, but it likely wouldn't be a problem. Pippy squints a little right now. She recently had eye surgery because shortly after she was rescued, she was diagnosed with entropion.

"Which is where the eyelid turns under, so all that fur and the eyelashes were irritating the eye. So, she has a little bit of scar tissue, but the doctor said not much at all," Lee said.

Pippy recovered nicely from the surgery and does not need any medication or eye ointment. Rescue workers say she was a huge hit with the surgeon's office. And quickly after meeting her, we could understand why. Pippy has unique coloring and the sweetest personality.

"She loves the attention; she loves the scratches around the ear and under the chin. I think the most endearing thing about her is licking your fingers and rubbing her head. You can't help but fall in love with her," said Lee.

It was hard to even say goodbye to her because Pippy kept coming back for more petting. If you would like to meet Pippy, you can find her adoption information by clicking here.

All adoption fees for both cats and dogs are covered through March 2 at True Friends Animal Welfare Center. If you get your application in before then, there is no adoption fee, thanks to an anonymous donor.
