Piggie at Dessin Animal Shelter | 16 To The Rescue

In this week's 16 To The Rescue we meet Piggie, a 4-year-old bull terrier mix with a face to match his name.

HONESDALE, Pa. — Piggie's name suits him perfectly, with his perfect little piggie face. He is a 4-year-old bull terrier mix. He was rescued from a hoarding situation in November with more than 20 other dogs. All but a few have been adopted since then, but not Piggie.

"We're really surprised because he is one of the most confident and social out of that whole group. A lot of them came in afraid of people, but not Piggie; he loves everybody," said Linda Gambone, Dessin Animal Shelter. "We've taken him on many off-sites, and he's really good at meeting people. He's very gentle meeting children."

Rescue workers at Dessin Animal Shelter near Honesdale say Piggie would do well in a lot of different family situations and should be a relatively easy place.

"Piggie has a pretty chill energy except when he is playing fetch. He loves playing fetch, and he can get a bit energetic, so for that reason, we're going to say older kids would be a better playmate for him," Gambone said.

Piggie can go to a home with female dogs or more submissive male dogs, but not cats.

Piggie is the kind of dog that just always wants to be included. He loves going for car rides and running errands with his person.

"One of our volunteers takes him over to our thrift store in Honesdale and he spends the day there while she's working. He'll greet customers, and when he's not greeting customers, he is just chilling out on his doggy bed," said Gambone.

Rescue workers at Dessin think Piggie is just the perfect companion. He's doing well at the shelter but is ready for his forever home.

"We're just hoping we can expand the search and have somebody and look at him and say, 'Wow, what a cutie, and let's come out and meet him,'" Gambone said.
