Dieci | 16 To The Rescue

This 4-year-old foxhound was found abandoned on the side of I-81 and is just learning how to be a dog for the first time at Friends with Paws Rescue.

SCRANTON, Pa. — "Dieci" means ten in Italian, which is how she got her name. Dieci was found abandoned on the side of Interstate 81 over the summer with the number ten painted on her.

"To take an abandoned dog like this that was almost dead and to bring her back to where she is now, the next best thing would be to see her leave and get the family she deserves," said her foster, Brian Donahue.

Rescue workers at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue believe she probably came from somewhere in the south, but all they know for sure is what bad shape she was in when she was found.

"My wife put 14 pounds on her. She made her chicken and rice every single day, and she just ate and ate and ate. We did it slowly, so she didn't get sick," Donahue said.

Dieci has been living with her foster family in the Scranton area since she was rescued. She now has a clean bill of health and is ready to be adopted. More than that, her foster family can't believe the transformation of her personality.

"She's more social around the house, little by little. One day, she just decided she jumped up on the couch with us at night," Donahue said.

Dieci is really just learning how to be a dog for the first time. She is still afraid of some sudden noises. Her foster family knows she must have some serious trauma from how she was treated in the past.

"She just will not walk on a leash right now. We've been slowly trying to work on that, but you have to have a fenced-in yard for her," Donahue said.

Dieci is probably about 4 years old and is a foxhound. Her personality comes out the most when she is with other dogs so rescue workers would like to see her go to a home with a friend, but most importantly, a loving family.

"She's in really good shape. She's young, she's playful. If you have a family with another dog or kids, she's just going to be amazing," said Donahue.
