DICKSON CITY, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet 9-month-old Amber, who was found living in a cat colony in Scranton. Rescue workers with Animal Care Associates say Amber actually found them. That was back in March. Now, she is being fostered and cared for at PetSmart in Dickson City.
"Clearly, she is not socialized just from our short time of having her. She walked up to the rescuer. She had that in her to start. She is not a feral, she was never a feral, she was a dump," said Katrina Sonnenberg of Animal Care Associates.
That's why rescue workers are hoping this works. They want Amber to find her forever family, one that won't let her go this time. Amber is about 9 months old. Even though she is great with people, she does not like other cats and wasn't too much of a fan of living with dogs either, which rescue workers say has made finding her forever home a bit more difficult.
"We think she would really be best to be placed by herself, but she is certainly enough to keep you entertained and happy and give you lots of love all on her own."
Rescue workers think Amber would be happy with kids or any family who will give her the attention she loves.
"Somebody who is going to make her their world. She is full of energy still. She's not a baby, but she definitely still has kitten in her. She's playful, but she's also the perfect mix of a lap cat. She is very social with her humans," Sonnenberg said.
Amber is a tortie calico cat, a kind of cat that's known to have an attitude, but rescue workers say they don't see that in her.
"She's very outgoing, which makes her really good for someone who maybe never had a pet before and isn't used to typical cat behavior where they take time to warm up to you. She doesn't need that. She's going to be your BFF right out the door."
