SCRANTON, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 2-year-old cat who was dumped near an animal refuge in Scranton about six months ago. Rescue workers found her, cared for her, and have fallen in love with her.
"She is super playful and really deserves the one-on-one attention that a family could give her," said Katrina Organ, a worker at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo.
Thistle has been living at St. Cats and Dogs since December. Rescue workers say they quickly learned she has what is essentially irritable bowel syndrome, and they believe that is why she was dumped near the shelter.
"It's possible that the person who had her before couldn't afford a vet or didn't know what to do with her, and that's why she was dumped. But since she's been on her special food, she really has not had any issues," Organ said.
The food is a little bit more expensive than regular cat food. Thistle eats it both wet and dry, and it is safe for other cats, too. She will have to be on it for the rest of her life.
"Basically, that just controls her tummy issues, so she's not having accidents or loose stools, and it's really just as simple as continuing to buy that brand for her lifetime," said Organ.
Rescue workers believe Thistle is about 2 years old, and they think she must have been cared for at some point because of how friendly she is.
"We have a volunteer that comes in daily, and she is her shadow, she calls her. She likes to be in people's business. She's around my ankles right now. She loves catnip, she loves to be active, she's very curious and very playful," Organ said.
Thistle can go to any home. She gets along with other cats. She has not been dog tested, but rescue workers think she would be fine with them, considering how laid back she is about everything else. Thistle would just be the perfect addition to any family looking for a new friend.
"They would be very lucky, I think, if you have kids or if you're looking for a companion that you can play with, more and more involved in your household, then this would be a good choice for you," Organ said.
