16 To The Rescue: Roy Rodgers

In this week's 16 To The Rescue we meet a Pit Bull named Roy Rodgers who is coming up on his one year anniversary of living at the shelter.

PLAINS, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a Pit Bull named Roy Rodgers.

"Roy is one of our beautiful pittie boys or handsome I should say. He has been here since September 22 of last year, so he is coming up on his one-year mark, so we really want to see him find his forever home before then," said Taryn Talacka, SPCA of Luzerne County.

Since that's just a few weeks away, rescue workers at SPCA of Luzerne County hope Roy Rodgers will find his perfect forever home before then. Roy Rodgers is probably between about 2 and 4 years old. He is a Pit Bull and was a stray, so rescue workers don't know anything about his life before his time here, but they say getting to know him has been so special.

"Oh my gosh, any family that adopts Roy Rodgers is going to be so gosh darn lucky. I am so excited to see him find his forever home. He is a dog that really is going to come out of his shell in a home," Talacka said.

Roy proved that point as soon as we met him. He absolutely loved being this week's 16 To The Rescue feature, accepting all of the belly rubs he could get and showing off some of the commands he has learned in the past year. Rescue workers describe Roy Rodgers as simply fun-loving.

"He is a bit of a higher-energy dog. He loves hiking. He loves rides in the car to and from. He is a passenger princess, he likes to ride in the passenger seat not in the back," said Talacka.

But once Roy can get his energy out, he is good to hang out and be a lap dog. Rescue workers bring Roy to many places, and he does great in all settings. He can go to a home with older kids and dogs, but he can be dog-selective, so there would need to be a meet and greet first.

"He is such a wonderful dog and we see his great qualities. We're just wondering if he's been passed over because he is a pittie. Pit bulls makes wonderful pets, they just have to be exercised regularly so we would love to see him go to a home and have an owner who understands that," Talacka said.

It is 'Clear the Shelter' time here at SPCA of Luzerne County; Now through September 10 all adoptions are half off so Roy Rodger's adoption fee is currently $60. If you want to meet him, you can find his adoption information by clicking here.
