16 To The Rescue: Randy

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 2-year-old boxer mix who was found as a stray and is living at an animal shelter in Wayne County.

WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — “He's going to be a best friend, a best companion, and just a really fun dog,” says Linda Gambone of Dessin Animal Shelter.

This week's 16 to The Rescue feature is Randy. He showed us all his best skills and how fun of a dog he is.

“He is just a big, friendly, very athletic boy. He's the kind of dog that's just a little too big for the confines of the shelter, so we would love to get him out of here and into a home with a big yard or a big property so he can stretch his legs out and run around.”

“Randy is probably about two years old. He is a boxer mix and came to live here at Dessin Animal Shelter near Honesdale about six months ago. He was found as a stray, but rescue workers say he knows quite a few commands, so they don't know who dumped him or why, especially after getting to know him,”

“So first of all, Randy's favorite thing to do of all time is to play fetch. What I love about him is that when I show up at the shelter, he's already standing there with a ball in his mouth.”

Look at how patient he is when he waits and how gentle he is when he returns the ball. Rescue workers take Randy to the park often, and they say that's when he is happiest.

“I think what we're looking for for Randy is an active family, someone willing to play catch or chuck it with him. 20-30 minutes a day, and then he's good. He's nice and calm but will be so much fun to play with. No matter how bad the throw is from me, he can catch it.”

He is the most athletic boy, but luckily, his owner doesn't need to be. Randy can probably go to a home with a bigger female dog but no cats or other small animals. Rescue workers hope to see Randy go to a family with older kids, a family he can grow up with.

“We've actually taken him on off-site, and he's terrific with people. Friendly, very polite, doesn't jump all over you, loves to jump in a car. He's going to be a great hiking buddy, playmate out in the park, and just a really nice boy.”

You can find his adoption information here if you want to meet Randy.
