SCRANTON, Pa. — This week's 16 To The Rescue feature is Onyx.
"It's funny right now, I think, because we have so many dogs, and some of these dogs are just getting overlooked, I think. 16 is the best place to be seen," said Brian Donahue, Friends with Paws Pet Rescue.
Onyx is an 8-month-old lab/mix and was rescued from Arkansas. She has been living at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue in Scranton since the end of May, and it should be an easy place, but rescue workers think that since the shelter is at capacity, some dogs just get overlooked right now.
"She likes to play, she likes to give hugs, she likes to chase balls, she'd be great for any family," Donahue said.
Rescue workers would like to see Onyx go to a family with kids because she loves to run around, and they think kids would match her energy. But they say she'd be happy anywhere, and she'd make anyone feel like the luckiest.
"She's just what you would expect from a lab, and she has that retriever, wants to be next to you, give you hugs, she's just a golden girl," Donahue said.
Onyx is still a puppy, so she needs a family who is prepared for that, but she is almost fully house-trained. She is ok with other pets in the home and loves the other dogs here at Friends with Paws. Onyx doesn't like getting into the car but once she's in, she is fine. Rescue workers say that's really her only issue.
"Everybody loves her. She is just so sweet. When she comes out of her pen, she wants to jump on you and put her arms around you and push on you, and give you hugs. She's just really a sweetheart," said Donahue.
