MONTROSE, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 1-year-old cat named Leia.
"Just give her time, time is a big issue with some cats. And that's going to be with Leia. She would need time," said Linda Lee, True Friends Animal Welfare Center.
That is why rescue workers at True Friends Animal Welfare Center near Montrose are excited to introduce Leia in this week's 16 To The Rescue. They say giving Leia some time to warm up to her new home and family will be more than worth it.
"She came in with three other siblings, and they fortunately all got adopted, and Leia is still here. And we're very sad that she had to spend her 1st birthday in a shelter," Lee said.
That was back in August, so she is a little over a year old now. Leia and her siblings came in as strays as 4 month old kittens in December. Rescue workers at True Friends say the reason they wanted to feature Leia this week is to give her the extra exposure and attention she doesn't typically get since she hides from most visitors here at the shelter.
"She's just very timid, very shy. That's what's holding her back from getting adopted. The others were 'here I am' a little more forward, whereas she is a little more shy. But she's a real funny girl. She loves to play," said Lee.
She didn't play much while we were there since we were still new to her, but she didn't try to hide either. Despite being a bit timid around the camera, she was still curious and rescue workers say they think she'll be a totally different girl once she's comfortable in her forever home with her loving family. She doesn't seem to mind other cats, or dogs really but Leia would just need a family who is ok with her hiding for a little while at first.
"I think she would be good in any home. Maybe younger children would have to give her time. She's a nice cat, she's not mean, she's just very shy," Lee said.
