SCRANTON, Pa. — Henson takes a little bit of time to adjust to new things, but she surprisingly does not mind the camera in her face at all. She clearly wanted to show off how pretty she is, hoping her forever family is watching.
"She is so sweet. She was actually brought in as a momma cat, and she took great care of her babies. It did take her a while to warm up to us," said Katrina Organ, a worker at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo.
But warm up she did, and it happened just in time. Henson came in as part of the Trap, Neuter, and Release program at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo in Scranton. Rescue workers were going to release her after she had her kittens, but once she warmed up to them, they thought she was too sweet to return.
That was a little more than two years ago, and no one has shown any interest in Henson in that time.
"She is definitely a cat that likes attention on her terms. So, she's a little bit harder to adopt because when people walk through, she's not a cat that's going to walk right up to you. However, once you earn her affection, it's totally worth it," Organ said.
Rescue workers say that is their favorite thing about Henson. Once she warms up to you, she definitely lets you know, demanding attention, head scratches, and belly rubs.
"That means she really is going to trust you. But that also means she's going to tell you what she wants. She's going to tell you when she's done, and she's going to tell you when she's not done. She does this little grabby paw thing where she'll grab your hand if you seem like you're done petting her and say, 'No, no, you're not done yet. You think you are, but you're not,'" she said.
Henson is probably about 3 or 4 years old. She can go to a home with other cats and probably older dogs, too. Definitely not a puppy, though. Some of her quirks: Henson does not really play with toys, and she does not like to be picked up.
"Probably not a home with small children and not a noisy home. But she'd be great for someone looking for a lap cat at the end of the day who is OK with her doing her own thing when she wants."
