SCRANTON, Pa. — Anyone who meets him can best describe Dwight in one word: sweet. The 2-year-old boy does not play much with toys, but probably only because he has never really had them. He does, however, absolutely love being by your side, rubbing against you, and getting all the pets.
Dwight has only been living at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo for a few weeks after being rescued from a hoarding situation in Scranton.
"He was in the back room of a trailer with 28 other cats. St. Cats was able to take eight of those. We were full, but we were able to do some shuffling. Unfortunately, the living conditions were not very sanitary, so everyone has gotten baths and health checks, and he is just so, so sweet," said Katrina Organ, St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo.
Rescue workers say now that Dwight is all cleaned up, he is ready to be adopted, and really, they just want to see him go to a home where he gets a lot of love and attention. He is OK with other cats, and is fine meeting new people, especially if they're offering head rubs.
"And he is rather affectionate, so I think really anything would be OK. We haven't tested him with dogs, but there were dogs in the hoarding situation that he was in, so we anticipate it would probably be OK. So, really, there are not a lot of restrictions on homes for this guy," Organ said.
Because he can be in any home, rescue workers thought he would be a good feature for this week's 16 To The Rescue, and they are just so in awe of how trusting he is, considering his past.
"Just is really incredible when you think about the situation that he came from. He was completely neglected. To still be so open to people and to come up to people, anyone who wants to pet him, to seek out that attention, is really amazing," said Organ.
