Clarence | 16 To The Rescue

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet an older cat who was found as a stray, but neighbors knew he was too friendly to be living outside.

SCRANTON, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet an older cat who was found as a stray but was so friendly to everybody in the neighborhood that they knew they needed to save him.

"We took this guy in because he's special. We're not really a cat rescue; we're more dogs, but we could not resist this boy," said Clara Cammerota at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue.

After meeting Clarence, you quickly understood that sentiment. Clarence has been living at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue in Scranton since December. Rescue workers have no idea why he was dumped.

"I really don't know. He was definitely indoors because he was trying to get in everybody's house," Cammerota explained.

One of those houses happened to belong to a volunteer at Friends with Paw. That is how he ended up there, and rescue workers are glad he did because he had sores in his mouth. He has since been diagnosed with a condition called stomatitis. Clarence has to have a shot once a month to control the sores, but Friends with Paws will cover that cost forever.

"It would be required to take him there. We will supply his food. He likes soft food only. Once in a while, he'll eat dry food —we have it in his pen here—but he prefers the 'lickables' they're called," said Cammerota.

Clarence is an older cat, probably about 10, but he is still active and loves playing. But probably what he enjoys most is being petted and brushed.

"He's beautiful. I love when I come in and he cries. Because every time I walk in the door, he thinks I'm going to feed him because that's my job; I feed him every day, so as soon as I walk in, he starts yelling," Cammerota said.

Clarence can go to a home with other dogs, cats, and kids. He's only got one requirement, and it's an easy one.

"We don't want him back outside. That's not an option. He would be an indoor cat only. He would have died outside, but we saved him, and we would like to see him live a long, healthy life," Cammerota said.
