16 To The Rescue: Bosco

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet an 11-month-old Shepherd/mix living at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue in Scranton.

SCRANTON, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet an 11-month-old Shepherd/mix named Bosco.

"He's trying to give you a hug. He just doesn't realize he's almost as tall as me," said Holly Smith, Friends with Paws Pet Rescue.

Bosco gives the best hugs, though, and rescue workers at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue in Scranton are excited to feature him for this week's 16 To The Rescue. Bosco has been in and out of the shelter for the past few months because his previous owner had insecure housing. She finally decided it was best for Bosco to be officially put up for adoption. Bosco is a Shepherd/mix and, believe it or not, is still a puppy.

"He has a lot of energy. He is a big boy for being a baby. He is only about 11 months old now. So he definitely needs a family with older children, not younger, because he is so strong. He has lots of love to give. He is not aggressive. He does like to guard some of his food and toys," Smith said.

Rescue workers think that is because of his time on the street, which could change in a forever home. Bosco does get along with other dogs, but rescue workers think being the only dog in the home might be best because of that resource guarding. Older kids or no kids, Bosco would be happiest in a home with a young, active family.

"He wants to jump, he wants to hug. He wants to kiss. He wants to lick. He wants to play. He loves treats, he is very treat motivated. He just needs someone to give him that extra time to go on hikes or be an outdoorsy dog," said Smith.

Bosco still needs some training, but rescue workers say he would make the perfect addition to the right home, having grown up with a family. They are desperate to find that home quickly because they say the shelter is just not the place for him.

"He doesn't like going back into the kennel. He has lots of energy playing with the other dogs, but he just doesn't want to be tied down in a kennel because he has so much energy to get out," Smith said.

A shelter board member sponsors Bosco's adoption fee because of how loved he is at Friends with Paws.
