DELAWARE, USA — Home and Backyard takes a trip to The Enchanted Children's Garden of Winterthur in Delaware.  Children of all ages enjoy this amazing garden that is sure to inspire a sense of wonder and imagination. Nestled in the heart of Delaware’s beautiful Brandywine Valley, sits Winterthur an extraordinary museum, garden, and library offering a variety of tours, exhibitions, for all ages. 

Paul Epsom takes you on a guided tour of the Enchanted Children's Garden and learns about the inspiration and history of this outdoor space. . The designers were fortunate to have a store of objects and artifacts collected by the DuPonts. There are playful water features and sculptures all throughout the garden. The beauty of this garden is the work and craftsmanship of Winterthur’s skilled arborists, carpenters, and painters, who maintain features such as a giant Bird’s Nest of large woven branches, which offers an elevated view of the garden; the Tulip Tree House, fashioned from an upright  hollow poplar trunk where kids can hide and seek; and the Faerie Cottage, a fantastical playhouse built with large wooden beams, a hearth and walls of stone, and a roof that was recently re-thatched in the traditional manner. It truly is an enchanted experience for all ages!

Visitors can spend the day enjoying their famous 60-acre naturalistic garden, carefully designed by H. F. du Pont, and the estate’s 1,000 acres of rolling hills, meadows, and woodlands. Winterthur has 25 miles of well-marked paths and trails, and lush gardens for you to explore.
