FORTY FORT, Pa. — Kids can be picky, especially when it comes to food. It can be tough to know what to pack for school lunches.
We spoke with two registered dieticians about healthy, cost-effective ideas.
Dietician Amanda Gordineer suggests using MyPlate's recommendations to guide what type and how much food to eat.
"My plate is a great source for us to see if we are meeting our needs with the nutrition we want to see for ourselves and for our kids in school lunch," she says.
One way to balance out meals is to select one food from each MyPlate category. Gordineer says you can still make nutritious, complete meals even if the foods from each category don't fit together.
Both dieticians also suggest getting your children involved in the process. Letting your kids choose which fruits and vegetables they want to eat will go a long way.
Gordineer says you can do this by making a list of foods and letting them choose from it.
Other tips include meal prepping and hiding vegetables in food.
