Helping students plan their future

Several organizations set up a transition fair in Scranton for special needs students and their families

SCRANTON, Pa. — Toppling towers with tips on workplace etiquette and team building exercises were just some of the many activities students from across Lackawanna County got to experience at Goodwill Industries in Scranton for the annual Transitions Fair.

"I like coming here seeing all my friends at different schools," said Eric Dibileo, a member of the Marywood Soar Program.

More than 200 students with special needs took part in the event hosted by Goodwill, the Scranton School District, NEIU 19, and Allied Services.

Organizers say the career fair offers students and their families a head start on navigating life after graduation.

"It's hard to know all the resources that are out there," said Regina Fidiam a NEIU Educator and fair Organizer. "There's a lot of people to support us in transition and support our, our students through that, but having them all in one place is very helpful for parents, for students to see. Ok, I could go to this person when I need help with housing or this person when I need help with getting a job."

"I've gotten few souvenirs and got to talk to different people about different stuff," said Joey Salamone, a student at Montrose High School.

More than two dozen local organizations set up booths to show students all the options they have to succeed, every day.

"I'm gonna be stoked to tell my parents that honestly, I think I might have found some new solutions to my post high school career," said Leah Moher, a student at Scranton High School.
