A wayward swine's time on the run has come to an end on Halloween, as 'Kevin Bacon' the pig has returned to his farm in Gettysburg, with a bit of persuasion, of course.
After being on the run for nearly two weeks, owner Chelsea Rumbaugh confirmed that the pig was caught on Oct. 31 around 12:15 p.m. after walking into his pen, where he was found asleep.
Rumbaugh said he was fed a Benadryl-laced sticky bun around 8:00 a.m. today, but they were not sure whether or not it was effective.
"He's hard to catch, he's not even greased," Rumbaugh said on Oct. 17.
Kevin Bacon's former family decided he was too big to feed.
"They had bought him thinking he would be a small house pig," Rumbaugh said.
Things got off on the right hoof.
"[The other animals] loved Kevin," she said. "They were climbing all around him."
Soon, an unruly Kevin thought he needed six degrees of separation and made an escape into the woods. FOX43's original coverage of the escaped pig is attached below:
The 197-pound pig knocked out a post to get free.
"We got a call from the campground across the street and they said 'Hey, we've got your pig walking around,'" Rumbaugh said. "That's really what started the search."
The family scoured the paths just off the property, finding Kevin's footprints along the way.
Over the past two weeks, the Rumbaughs have set the table for Kevin, leaving out ample food and flowers for him to nibble.
They've lined the paths on the property with corn, hoping to draw him in.
They spotted their spotted friend several times, but he's keeping his snout out of the pen, preferring the life of a free-range pig.
Of course, the community got in on the search, with a Crossroads Creations, a Gettysburg-based small business, making a #GettysburgKevin shirt.
A portion of the proceeds from each shirt sale will go towards building a new home for Kevin Bacon with more room for him to roam in hopes that he won't try to adventure out again, Grimm said on Facebook. The money raised will also help with the costs of feeding Mr. Bacon, who has now found his way home.
