LYCOMING COUNTY, Pa. — "His car got melted, the windshield the window, you know things got destroyed from it," said Jona Egli as she walked past her neighbors now melted car.
Egli spent much of Thursday walking through the rubble of her neighbor's home after a fire in Hughesville Wednesday night.
"I looked out my front window and I saw the orange," said Egli. "I ran out the door…got to over here and saw that it was all engulfed."
"I took her and put her into a chair and said Tam we have to get of here fast and she didn't know what was going on at that point," said James Benedetto.
After getting his partner, daughter and daughter's friend out safely, Benedetto said he watched as his home was destroyed.
"They had to tear the ceiling down and some of the walls so it's really unfixable," said Benedetto.
Just as fast as things went wrong, neighbors like Egli stepped in to make sure Benedetto and his family would be ok.
"It's definitely the Hughesville way or the area. People around here…they act as family," said Egli. "They don't care who you are."
"I feel full right now of love, very loved," said Benedetto.
Almost everything Benedetto owned was destroyed in the fire. During our interview, he learned the family cat survived.
Benedetto is looking to find a new home for his family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
