Xena and Oden | 16 To The Rescue

One is based on Greek mythology, the other is a powerful Norse god: both are miniature pinschers waiting for a forever home in Wayne County.

HONESDALE, Pa. — One is based on Greek mythology, known as the warrior princess for her mighty skill in combat. And the other is one of the most powerful Norse gods, ruler of all of Valhalla.

Maybe a lesser-known fact is that both are miniature pinschers waiting for their forever home in Wayne County. In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we introduce you to Xena and Oden.

Oden, the god of war, the supreme god in Norse mythology, loves a back scratch.

Xena, the warrior princess, the fictional cultural phenomenon, loves a tummy rub if you have a minute to spare.

"Yes, they're big names for little dogs," said Linda Gambone from the Dessin Animal Shelter.

7-year-old Xena and 8-year-old Oden are two affectionate miniature pinschers at the Dessin Animal Shelter in Wayne County. They were surrendered to the shelter together and can be adopted as a pair, as they get along well together, but can be adopted individually as well.

Both pups are cuddle bugs and willing to work in exchange for treats. They're even working on their sitting skills at the shelter, though sometimes the allure of a good bite to eat distracts them from their progress.

"She has a lot of pep in her step and a lot of life in her, so she's a fun, lovable little dog," says Gambone.

Xena, in her pretty pink harness, is described as an aggressive lover. She bonds quickly with people and is always up for a cuddle and as many treats as you'll allow her.

Oden is equally affectionate and enjoys some one-on-one time with a good pet. He is also OK with giving himself a scratch should you need a snuggle break.

Rescue workers wanted to feature these playful pups because they know sometimes their true personalities don't come across in their meet-and-greets, but they have a lot to show off.

They wouldn't need a ton of space in their new home, but both dogs enjoy their time outside and love getting a nice walk when given the chance.

"They're just so affectionate. If you want just a little, loving partner or companion to sit with you each day, they're the perfect dogs for that," explains Gambone.

Xena and Oden are both healthy and are looking for a home without young children or cats. While either dog might get along with a calm smaller dog, they cannot live with a big dog in their forever home.

Rescue workers say adopting both or either of these spunky little dogs into your home would be a great addition for someone looking for a loyal companion and a little entertainment.
