WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Folks in Luzerne County held a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.
Hundreds of people came out to Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Coal Street in Wilkes-Barre to enjoy live music, food vendors, and even a fashion show.
Organizers say it's important for smaller communities to commemorate the holiday.
"These areas are, like, overlooked, right? We're kind of small compared to like New York City, right? So when we can bring this many people in the community together, I love it. I mean, our numbers, like I said, are like upwards of about 900 people, so that's, that's a really good thing for us," said Melissa Rivers, Wilkes-Barre NAACP.
This was the NAACP's 3rd annual Juneteenth celebration in Wilkes-Barre.
