SCRANTON, Pa. — Some people in a section of Scranton are without water after a main broke Wednesday morning.

The break in the 6-inch main happened around 11 a.m. near the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and New York Street.

About 25 homes and businesses are affected, according to Pennsylvania American Water.

Crews hope to complete repairs by Wednesday evening.

Yet another water main break in Scranton. Didn’t we have one like 4-5 days ago? Scranton Water Authority (or whoever it is) is obviously in break/fix mode. They’d rather just fix stuff as it breaks rather than do infrastructure upgrades. I guess it’s better to line the pockets of the shareholders and board of directors. I’m sure they get their water from an independent source and couldn’t care less about service interruptions.

Not only that but when they had to preemptively replace some pipes here a few years ago they put the street back to being a 100% solid chunk of blacktopping from curb to curb and even put in a rolled curb. Me? They patched my sidewalk and driveway, making a speed bump in the middle of my driveway and keep telling me ‘the state only requires us to put back what we dug up’, all while making deep cuts with saws where the ice and snow will get into and destroy it over time. Guess the city gets held to a different standard though. I’m about to look for a lawyer to try going after them with the argument being that everybody’s property (municipal entity, private citizen) should be held to the same standard.
