MOOSIC, Pa. -- A fire at a restaurant is under investigation in Lackawanna County.
The fire broke out after 8 a.m. on Friday at Nana's Pasta House on Route 502 in Moosic.
Hours after the fire broke out, firefighters were still putting out some flames.
Emergency crews tell Newswatch 16 an excavator is being brought in to knock the building down once the fire is out.
Fire crews have been outside Nana's Pasta House in Moosic since around 8 a.m. Friday. The restaurant was closed when the fire broke out. Fire and smoke could be seen pouring out of the Italian restaurant
Since then, crews have been trying to knock out all of the hot spots.
Two people lived in upstairs apartments and were able to get out safely.
Because of the fire, about 160 homes were without electricity.
Alexis Wilson tells Newswatch 16 she would come to Nana's Pasta House every year for her grandmother's birthday.
"I saw trucks and everything outside and I did not know what was going on. I thought someone hit a pole because there was no power, still have no power, so I thought someone hit a pole. Nope. It is sad to see it go," Wilson said.
"During the height of the fire, we did have a collapse at the rear corner of the structure, so we kept all the firefighters out, used ground monitors and heavy streams," said Avoca Assistant Fire Chief Jim Butler.
Fire crews spent most of the morning trying to knock out the hotspots.
Heavy equipment had to be brought in to help firefighters get closer to the flames.
"We had to use a lot of master streams on that ladder pipes, deck guns, that kind of things because during the fire, you were not able to get in the structure," Butler said.
Fire officials say two people lived in the upstairs apartments. They got out safely.
Customers were sad to see their favorite restaurant leveled by flames.
"One of the best things around here. They have great Italian food. That homestyle cooking, everybody loved it. It was a great place. It is going to be missed," said Arthur Robinson.
A state fire marshal says the cause of the fire at Nana's Pasta House is still under investigation.
