OLD FORGE, Pa. -- Emergency roadwork is finally underway in part of Lackawanna County on a roadway ruined by flooding.

It's been about two months since Lonesome Road in Old Forge closed because of flash flooding.

The water from heavy rain caused buckling. Lonesome Road connects Moosic and Old Forge.

Part of it is open to businesses.

"It really is a main artery in and out of Moosic and old forge so when something like that goes down, causes lots of problems for the business people obviously, I'm sure they're upset about it,” said Armando Sallavanti of Old Forge.

Crews are expected to take three weeks to reopen Lonesome Road.

E-Lane's Diner in Old Forge is right by the closure.

"It's an act of nature and it has to be fixed and it's going to take a little while, but there's always pain before there's a cure. It'll be great when it's all done,” said Patrick Mischello of Old Forge.

PennDOT officials said the work is actually part of a $4.5 million contract to repave 15 miles of roadway in Lackawanna County.

"We usually go all around, but we'll be glad to see that open,” said Diane Houlihan of Taylor.

The equipment to fix this was brought in this week and work got underway.

According to PennDOT officials, the contractor should have this all repaired in about three weeks.
