WILKES-BARRE -- The Luzerne County Convention and Visitor Bureau is finishing its first new marketing video for the area in more than a decade.

The bureau is hoping the video will attract more people to Luzerne County.

The video shows off about 40 different sights from across Luzerne County from places people might find familiar, like the arena and downtown Wilkes-Barre, to places even locals might not know about.

"Like the mansion down in Freeland, which is a wonderful example of a woman that took care of widowed coal miners and their families," explained Janet Hall, executive director of the visitors bureau.

"I do think people tend to miss things around them when they're around them all the time," said Gerard Durling.

Durling owns Coal Creative, the marketing company in Wilkes-Barre that is producing the four-minute video.

"There are so many things in our area and our community that we can do and we just overlook them," Durling said.

Newswatch 16 showed part of the video to some people who were impressed with what they saw.

"It was very nice, very, very nice. I would think there would be more visitors," said Nicole Ray.

"They made it very nice, and I like it!" Ryan Caracausa said.

Last year, more than 700,000 people from out of the area visited Luzerne County. Officials hope the video attracts even more.

"We're also looking to build the pride and esteem of our local community," Hall added.

The video is expected to be released in a couple of weeks. Then, the visitors bureau plans to produce more, shorter videos geared towards specific markets in the area, like sports, religion, and shopping.
