JIM THORPE -- Just a few days after many people gave thanks, local organizations are giving back. It's all part of a campaign called "Giving Tuesday."
There's Black Friday, Cyber Monday and now Giving Tuesday.
It's a day where volunteers like Kathy Matukonis from Jim Thorpe drop what they are doing to help raise money and give back to local organizations.
"I think it's wonderful to give on Giving Tuesday, but I also think it's important to give all year round. There's a lot of local organizations," Matukonis said.
"It's all about raising awareness for what we can do for others this time of year. Everyone is in a giving spirit around the holidays, and that is so important," said Alicia Kline.
Kline is executive director of Turn To Us in Jim Thorpe. The nonprofit organization helps families impacted by major or chronic illnesses. She says days like this are very important to her organization.
"We need to encourage giving all year long because these people are battling illnesses or going through their issues all year and not just during the holidays."
Last year on Giving Tuesday, Turn To Us was able to raise $1,500 in just 12 hours. This year, they are hoping to double that.
For every $5 that is donated in person or online, homemade Christmas cards will be delivered to a patient at St. Luke's Miners Campus and Blue Mountain Health Systems.
Shawn Kresge owns the building Turn To Us works out of. He's happy to make a card and lend a hand, too.
"It's just nice to bring the community back in and let them know there are other families out there that can really use more help, and if you have a little bit of extra, it's a great cause," said Kresge.
